2004 Nanga Parbat History Research Project
AFFIMER has supported Jochen Hemmleb's research on the history of Nanga Parbat, one of the most famous 8000 meter peaks. 2002 Ellsworth Mountains, West Antarctica Expedition
We visited the Vinson Massif and the Patriot Hills to collect rock samples for a study a glacial geology (link to Claire Todd et al abstract). We also collected rocks for a reconnaissance study that uses DNA-polymerase technology to search for bacteria living inside stones. Such endolithic bacteria are widespread in warmer areas of Antarctica, and we hoped to find them on Mount Vinson.
2001 Mallory & Irvine Research Expedition on Mount Everest
To study the exploits of the pioneer climbers with historians and research climbers searching the upper mountain. The team found old camps and artifacts. The final tally included the 1922 ABC, 1924 C6, 1933 C6, 1960 and 1975 Chinese C6, and 1960 Chinese C7.
